What is broadband connection speed & usage?
Broadband speed is the rate that information is sent (upload speed) or received (download speed) on your broadband line. Its measured in 'Mb' ('megabits per second'). Take our broadband speed test below to see how fast you can go.
Broadband usage refers to the volume of information you are allowed to use over your broadband connection each month. Usage is measured in 'GB' (gigabytes).

How to improve your speed
BT Infinity gives you download speeds of up 76Mb where you can download up to eight times faster than our standard broadband. If BT Infinity is not in your area yet you can order a Broadband + Calls package now and upgrade to fibre optic if and when it becomes available.
The BT Broadband Accelerator is a smart bit of equipment that fits on to your telephone socket to boost your broadband speed by up to 1.5Mb if you've got BT Total Broadband and have extension wiring in your home. When you order BT Total Broadband, we'll give you one free.

Totally Unlimited Broadband usage
Our unlimited broadband packages are now totally unlimited, which means that you will be able to download as much as you like, enjoy catch-up TV, streamed films and online gaming without ever being slowed down.
Some other Internet service providers put restrictions on certain types of Internet traffic or a limit on how much you can download or upload which means that at peak times of day, customers may experience slower speeds.
We don't think that's a good enough experience for BT customers so we have made all of our unlimited products 'Totally Unlimited'.
What does broadband usage allowance mean?
Many of our great value broadband packages come with Totally Unlimited usage, which means you can use as much data as you want.

Great news if you're a sports fan. Any content you watch or stream via the BT Sport app and online player using your BT Broadband connection will not count against your broadband usage limit, so you can enjoy great live sport without the worry.
